Using structured data for online marketing
I have been so busy as of late working on launching client projects, but I decided to take a break and write about what I feel is a huge leap forward for search marketers. Google has announced a new way for you to optimize data on your site using Rich Snippets. These snippets are areas of content wrapped in tags that gives meaning to Google so that they search engine can better convey what your content is about.
So, what does this mean for people who are running online marketing campaigns? Instead of being limited to giving content structure so that search engines know what is a title versus what is a link, you are about to give content your content identity. As you write web copy, by wrapping things like product ratings and prices in specific tags, search engines are able to interpret what your content means and modify how it is presented to users on SERP's.
Read the article on the Google Webmaster blog and keep a close eye on this project. The semantic web is the future of online content.
